IDEA OF ALIEN LIFE GAINING CREDIBILITY

from The San Francisco Chronicle

With the increasing prevalence of the idea that the cosmos is "life friendly," scientists are now debating the societal implications of such a discovery. NASA's Ames Resarch Center in California is now primarily focused on the possibility of extraterrerstrial life, and scientists recently gathered there to debate the many-sided point. For instance, is it ethical to infect Mars with life from Earth? As one scientist put it, if Mars is dead, as he expects, then why not?

Many of you have been trained using the "Julia Child" method of soil science.  For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the "Julia Child" method was developed in order to make it easier to train all of the soil protocols at GLOBE workshops.  Since the workshops are typically very intense, certain things have to be prepared ahead of time to be used by the participants during the training.  Thus, all of the protocols are trained without the waiting time that's necessary to conduct the protocols in the "real" world. A number of folks have expressed a desire to see what goes into preparing a "Julia Child" soil training and so,  I've written up a prepsheet/guide of how to prepare for training soils using this method.  This prep sheet details the setup of equipment (for a sample workshop of 50 participants), the preparation of all of the supplementary training materials (e.g.  potting soil and baking soda mixture to show Free Carbonates) and a suggested preparation/training schedule.  The url for accessing the prep sheet is below.
